Elephant

Elephant
The two main protagonists in the movie are Alex Frost and Eric Deulen.  Alex is shown in science class being teased and getting spitballs thrown at him while the teacher has her back turned.  Eric is also bullied by the jocks at school.  Alex is outgoing, creative, and the smarter one of the two boys, while Eric is labeled as a slacker.  Alex is the mastermind behind the plan.
The movie Elephant takes place at Watt High School, in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon.  It is based partly on the massacre, which occurred in the year 1999 at Columbine High School.  The camera follows several students both in and out of high school to reveal the mood and tone of the adolescent world, and to show what goes on during a seemingly ordinary school day. The characters that the camera followed all had a roll to fulfill when the violence went down.
Alex and Eric ordered weapons off of the internet one day and then receive a rifle in the mail.  They both arrived at school on the day of their attack in Alex’s car.  They waited outside of the school but then decided to enter because they had plans to blow up parts of the school but they failed.  Once they got in the school is when they began their rampage and started shooting everywhere.  They killed thirteen people and Alex later shot Eric.  The movie itself does not give you straight forward answers about what sparked the shooting but it leaves you with nothing else to think but that bullying is the main cause of the violence.
Even though the movie doesn’t provide you with many answers, they followed plenty of students around and showed their ordinary school day and the main protagonists of the violence were the ones who were bullied.  There was even a kid who had a father who was an alcoholic and that didn’t seem to bother him but the kids who were repeatedly bullied went crazy and couldn’t take it anymore.  The movie just shows that everyone has their own different problems but the kids who are bullied seem to end up to be the ones who will commit acts of school violence.
